Low Carb Hot Chocolate
This sweet and creamy low-carb hot chocolate is the ultimate bedtime treat. Indulgently rich, this warm beverage can be served on its own, or for an extra special touch, top it with some of our Keto fluffy marshmallows!
What variations can you make to this Keto hot chocolate?
In place of almond milk, you can use coconut milk or any other plant-based nut milk. Instead of heavy cream, you can use coconut cream. You can omit the spices if you prefer plain hot chocolate. Although xylitol is suggested, you can replace it with your preferred low-carb sweetener of choice.
Is this recipe vegan?
This recipe is not vegan, but it can be easily adjusted to become one. Swap the heavy cream for coconut cream. As for the marshmallow, the one in this recipe isn't vegan, so make sure you use a vegan brand.
What is the best chocolate to use for this Keto drink?
To limit the number of carbs and keep this recipe Keto-friendly, we usually use cocoa powder. However, we have also decided to use unsweetened baking squares to add richness and creaminess.

Recipe Steps

Step 1
Add the almond milk, cream, xylitol, and cinnamon to a small saucepan over low/medium heat. Bring the pan to a gentle simmer but do not boil. While the milk is heating, add the cocoa powder to your favorite mug.Step 2
Once the milk is piping hot, add a little to the mug with the cocoa and stir. You want just enough milk to dissolve the powder and create a smooth paste. Add ½ of the remaining milk to the mug and stir well to combine.Step 3
Taste and adjust sweetener if needed. Add the remaining milk to a blender and blend on a high-speed setting for a minute to froth up. Alternatively, transfer the milk to a well-sealed jar and give it a good shake!Step 4
Pour the frothy milk into the mug. Cut the marshmallows into small chunks (if using) and scatter over the hot chocolate. Dust with a little cinnamon to serve.

Thank you so much for your feedback. You can find the Keto Marshmallows recipe in our sides section - this will give you the macros for the marshmallows. You can deduct a serving of this from the hot chocolate recipe. Hope this helps.

This is pretty good. While the hot chocolate itself isn't very sweet, the marshmallows give it that extra kick to make it taste more like real hot chocolate. This will be one of my regular drinks for the winter.
