Keto Thanksgiving Sweet Baby Onions
These low carb caramelized baby onions make a delicious side for the Keto Thanksgiving table. Our baby onions are peeled and kept whole, then pan-fried in butter, balsamic vinegar, thyme, and maple-flavored syrup. The onions are simple to prepare and are cooked low and slow until golden and caramelized. These make a great sweet and savory side option to accompany your Thanksgiving Keto main.
Can I Make This Dairy-Free?
We have pan-fried our Keto mushrooms in a generous helping of butter to provide fats, flavor, and add to the caramelization. If you are following a dairy-free or vegan diet, we recommend swapping for 2 tablespoons of coconut oil. This would be a richer and creamier butter replacement than using olive oil or another vegetable-based oil. Please be sure to adjust your macros to account for any changes you make to the recipe.
Are Onions Keto?
Onions are at the slightly higher end of the low carb vegetable scale but can be enjoyed in moderation as part of a Keto diet. We have used baby onions - also known as pearl onions - to create bite-sized mouthfuls of caramelized deliciousness! We have used 15 baby onions for this recipe and calculated the macros per onion. This means you can choose how many individual onions make up a serving according to your personal macro allowance.
