Keto Turmeric Trail Mix
This Keto turmeric trail mix is an addictive snack rich in nutrients, healthy fats, and antioxidants. You can prepare this recipe in just 15 minutes using your favorite nuts and seeds. This snack mix is also great for leftovers, so make sure you make a large batch and store it in the fridge for when you’re feeling snack-ish.
What are the health benefits of this trail mix?
Nuts and seeds are generally rich in heart-healthy fats, fiber, magnesium, vitamin E, and antioxidants. However, the star of this recipe is turmeric, which has many scientifically proven health benefits. Turmeric contains curcumin, which is an anti-inflammatory and antioxidant. It may play a role in easing certain health conditions and diseases.
How can you customize this trail mix?
This recipe uses almonds, cashews, walnuts, and sunflower seeds, but you can omit/replace any of these. Feel free to add hazelnuts, macadamia nuts, or pecans. If you are allergic to nuts, double down on the sunflower seeds and add pepitas, hemp seeds, and coconut chips. If you dislike the flavor of turmeric, you can minimize it by adding garlic powder, paprika, onion powder, and other spices.
Why does turmeric need black pepper?
While turmeric is a superfood, you should consume black pepper with it. Black pepper contains a compound called piperine, which enhances curcumin absorption by up to 2000%.
Should you use roasted, salted, or raw nuts and seeds?
We prefer using unsalted nuts to control the sodium levels. As for using roasted nuts versus raw, we prefer using raw nuts and seeds since we will bake them. Baking pre-roasted nuts/seeds might give them a burnt flavor.
