This Keto air fryer onion rings recipe is simple to prepare and quick to cook. The batter is prepared in a food processor, ready for dredging the onion rings. Once coated in the batter, the onion rings are air fried until golden.

Keto Air Fryer Onion Ring Ingredients

These easy Keto air fryer onion rings are prepared with white onion coated in a simple batter of ground almonds, egg, seasoning, grated parmesan, a little oil and baking soda. The onion is sliced into 1/2 inch thick rings before being dredged in the batter to coat. Once fried the batter will be crisp at the edges with a soft onion center.

Keto Air Fryer Onion Ring Tips

This Keto onion ring recipe provides a simple but flavorful basic batter. You may wish to adjust your batter by adding further seasonings, herbs or spices. For a smoky batter try adding a little paprika or why not add some Italian herbs for a Mediterranean flavor. Be sure to adjust your macros for any changes made.

  • Step 1

Add the ground almonds, grated parmesan, salt, baking soda and lemon juice to a food processor. Pulse the ingredients together briefly to combine. Crack the egg into the food processor and add the olive oil. Blend to combine. You should have a thick, smooth batter. Transfer the batter to a bowl. If your batter feels too thick you can add a little more oil.
    Step 1
  • Step 2

Peel the onion. Very carefully, slice the onion into half inch thick slices, working across the onion to create rings. Separate the rings with your fingers, reserving any smaller inner pieces for another meal. You want to have 16 onion rings.
    Step 2
  • Step 3

Arrange the onion rings across a clean work surface. Dredge each onion ring in the batter so they are all coated in a thin layer.
    Step 3
  • Step 4

Lightly oil your air fryer basket. Arrange the coated onion rings in the base of your air fryer basket. You will need to cook in batches, but should be able to fit in roughly half the onion rings at a time.
    Step 4
  • Step 5

Place the basket in the air fryer. Set the temperature to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Set the timer for 8 minutes. Remove the basket from the air fryer and carefully turn the onion rings over. Set the timer for a further 4 minutes. The onion rings should be golden all over and crisp at the edges. Return to the air fryer to cook further if needed. Repeat this process with the remaining onion rings.

I used crushed pork rinds (freeze the rinds overnight if to porky of a taste for you). They come out crisp and delicious.

I wanted to like these but the batter tastes more like breading, which may be normal for air frying, which I am relatively new to. More breading stuck to the pan and made it a hot mess. Won’t repeat this recipe.

Could the ground almonds be substituted for a small or equal amount of almond flour?
