Step 1
Preheat the oven to 390 degrees Fahrenheit.Step 2
Add all the powdered seasonings to a mixing bowl with the xylitol and season with salt and pepper. Mix well to combine.Step 3
Arrange the chicken wings in an oven proof dish and sprinkle over ½ of the seasoning mix. Use your hands to rub the seasoning in to the meat. Add 2 teaspoons of coconut oil to the tray with the chicken and transfer to the oven to bake for 25 minutes.Step 4
While the chicken is cooking, add the remaining coconut oil to a small pan with the mustard, tomato puree and remaining spices. Turn the heat to medium. Whisk the sauce ingredients together to form a paste, then add the butter to the pan.Step 5
Bring the sauce to a vigorous bubble, stirring constantly for about 4 minutes until you have a thick BBQ sauce.Step 6
Remove the wings from the oven and pour over the sauce.Step 7
Return to the oven to finish cooking for a further 20 minutes, turning halfway through. The wings are ready when piping hot through and the sauce is dark and sticky.

What is the serving size
recipewriter 4 years ago
Hi, I did 2 pounds of chicken wings (which equated to 8 large wings) and two wings were 1 portion.

I'm confused. Is this 7 oz after taking out the bones? One site says an average uncooked chicken wing is 3.5 ounces. I had 3 wings and the bones weighed 2.9 ounces so10.5 - 2.9 = 7.6 ounces actual meat and skin.

How do we record this?

So how many can we have per serving

Very nice replacement for wings. Had to substitute fresh ginger instead of the powder. I personally like my wings more in the burned crispy side so I added another 15 minutes in the oven. Flavored well and just a tiny kick. Will make this again for sure!

The flavor is delicious!!! The sauce was a paste when I made it so I added chicken broth and apple cider vinegar. Going to try it again with drumsticks. So good though!!!

The recipe was super easy, very tasty and I use chicken drumsticks and cook them only another 10 minutes at the end because of their thickness I will make these again! Thank you

Can you use an airfryer for these
Cstocum 4 years ago
That’s how I did mine! I did 20 min. When it came time for adding the sauce, I put them in the oven for 5-10 min. I just didn’t want the sauce in my air fryer.

Awesome! Read all reviews and loosened the rather guey goopy sludge sauce with a little beef stock.... Doubled it to begin with, froze the remaining servings. Added extra fresh ginger and a little Splenda brown sugar to the sauce....much tastier!

They also carry it at Walmart
Christine726 4 years ago
I've bought it at whole foods

Where do you purchase brown sugar Splenda?
Slittlejohn 5 years ago
This was super easy to make and delicious. Made it for the family and my 13 yr old son especially enjoyed it. We doubled the recipe because of him! Lol. Thanks for the recipe!

We had to add more tomato paste, more oil and more sweetness. Our mix wouldnt do anything but be a blob until we added the extra. Not my fav

No, but you can use the sweetner of your choice.

Can you use stevia instead of xytol?
Cindy M 5 years ago
Yes, but reduce amount unless you want them really sweet!

What is tomato purée? Is there another name for it?
Cindy M 5 years ago
Also known as tomato paste. It's in the grocery store next to tomato sauce.
gaya2081 5 years ago
Just use tomato sauce, tomato puree is slightly thicker.
