Keto Egg White and Herb Mug Bread

10 ratings

Are you on the hunt for the best keto bread recipe? It can be disappointing to learn the ingredients that make bread taste like, well, bread, are the ingredients you can’t include in a Keto diet. Common complaints of keto bread are that it has too strong of an egg taste or it’s too salty. This recipe helps curve both of those problems. Make these single-serving loaves of bread with egg whites instead of whole egg to remove that strong taste. The only dairy product in this recipe in a small amount of unsalted butter. With the addition of fresh herbs and garlic mixed into the bread, you’ll be delightfully surprised by the flavors in this quick and easy recipe.

Why Is There So Much Egg In My Keto Bread?

Those who eat gluten-free can tell you: it can be pretty tricky to find bread that is as durable as traditional bread without wheat flour. Add Keto diet restrictions on top of that, and no wonder you’re looking for quality options from an online source of culinary professionals! Eggs are the key to making Keto bread that won’t fall apart as soon as you slice it. To cover up some of the egg taste, try using more egg whites than egg yolks. Making bread with fresh herbs or fragrant spices can also help cover up the egg taste if you’re not so fond of it. Cheese is another yummy way to add some flavor and elasticity to your Keto bread, but be careful to not make your bread too salty!

Create a buffalo chicken-style mug bread by adding 1 TB of shredded, cooked chicken with a splash of hot sauce. Melt shredded cheddar on top of the mug bread to complete the flavor profile. You can make a pizza-inspired mug bread by swirling in 1 TB of Keto marinara sauce to the original recipe here and adding a pinch of oregano as well. I made it with fresh rosemary and added shredded Gouda instead of basil and Parmesan as those were the items I had on hand. Delicious!
