Step 1
If necessary, peel and devein your shrimp. Heat the oil in a large pot on medium high heat. Place in the shrimp, and sprinkle the salt and garlic powder over them. Cook the shrimp through on both sides until they’re browned.Step 2
Remove the shrimp from the pot and set them aside for later. Turn the heat to low. Chop the shallot and red bell pepper, and toss them with the leftover oil in the pot. Grate the ginger into the pot as well. Cover the pot and cook for a couple minutes until the ingredients are soft.Step 3
Next, stir in the salt, turmeric, and canned coconut milk. Bring the ingredients to a light simmer.Step 4
Finally, pour in the chicken broth and stir in the basil and cilantro. Cover the soup and bring it to a boil. Then, allow the soup to simmer, uncovered, for 3-4 minutes to reduce slightly. Serve with additional cilantro at your discretion and enjoy!

Unfortunately, not a recipe we will be repeating! We found it very bland.

Wow, this soup tastes amazing! I accidentally used a whole can of coconut milk (12 oz.), also used ginger powder instead of fresh grated and added some dried dill weed. I look forward to making it again. 💗😋

I took the advice to add some lemon and chilli. I also added some apple cider vinegar and way more corriander and shrimp. Was yum!

This was delicious. Not sure if I was supposed to use unsweetened coconut milk so maybe the regular one would’ve tasted a little sweeter and cut down on the salt taste. But it was still good. Recipe doesn’t tell you when to put the shrimp back in though lol

Added garam masala, lime juice, and fish sauce.

Where is the curry? That may be the cause for bland comments.

I used fish broth instead, more shrimps per serving, more garlic powder, more coconut milk, and added some grounded cayenne to make it spicier. At the end I let it boil until it was a bit denser. It was much more tasty!

I too thought it was bland at first. I read the reviews and it helped. I added a half of jalapeno and doubled the shrimp. It was tasty!

This was an ok dish.... And a bomb dish after I kicked up the flavor. I added jalapeño, heavy whipping cream, real crab meat, more salt and pepper otherwise this was a bland dish

Great recommendations! I did the same and this recipe came out beautifully. I also upped the basil and cilantro for this. I will definitely make this again soon!! Great recipe!
