The Best Keto Classic Hot Mocha Butter Coffee
Mocha coffees bring out the childhood nostalgia in us. Who didn’t love sipping on a hot chocolate-flavored drink as a kid? What we don’t miss are those powdery bits of cocoa leftover in your mug from not dissolving in the drink. This recipe knocks that complaint right out of the park! Instead of stirring loose cocoa powder into your BULLETPROOF® coffee, stir the cocoa into your coffee ground so it’s filtered as the hot water passes through. Now, you have a powder-free mocha drink with plenty of caffeine, Keto fats, and a hint of chocolate to comfort you. A hint of vanilla blends the acidity of the coffee and blandness of your sugarless cocoa, making this taste better than some Keto desserts.
What is a mocha, anyway?
A mocha, short for caffe mocha or mocha latte, is a chocolate-flavored coffee beverage made with espresso, chocolate syrup, and steamed milk. It comes in many flavors, such as white chocolate mocha, crème Brule mocha, and many more. In this recipe, we have decided to go with a simple vanilla mocha with a hearty helping of butter for some added richness.
What cocoa powder should you use?
You might think you can grab any cocoa powder off the shelves of the baking aisle, but check the nutrition label on your container. Many cocoa powders include added sugars when packaged. The other thing you need to make sure of is that you’re using 100% cocoa powder. What makes a chocolate bar taste extra good is the varying degrees of milk and sugar added to the cacao. A 100% cocoa powder will have no dairy or milk powder and no sugar added, making it as Keto as it can be. 100% cocoa powder is great for dusting over Keto desserts for a hint of chocolate flavor. Don’t pile it on though - bitter chocolate doesn’t taste great in mass amounts!
What are some variations to this Keto mocha coffee?
This Keto butter coffee recipe is great on its own, but it also makes a great base for a variety of butter coffee recipes. For the warmer months, blend this butter coffee with ice. Stir cinnamon and nutmeg with the cocoa powder to bump up the fragrance of your drink. Using a pinch of pumpkin spice with a dollop of sugar-free whipped cream would be an impressive topping to your coffee. Even better: trade in your vanilla extract for Mexican vanilla. Mexican vanilla has warm notes of cinnamon and a lot less alcohol smell than regular vanilla extract. Your options are endless!

Good but next time I'll add some sweetener.

Tried this my first morning after signing up for premium, and its very satisfying. If you are customed to black coffee already this will be no problem. I added a half teaspoon of stevia and a dollop of oat milk. Very easy and tasty!

I added a little stevia and heavy cream. Put it into a shaker bottle to mix and prevent the “sludge” I read about. Worked pretty well.

I use a disposable paper basket filter and drip coffee maker, and do not recommend mixing the cocoa powder with the coffee grounds. The cocoa and coffee grounds form a sludge that clogs the paper filter. Perhaps this is the finely ground "espresso" coffee that I use. Simply mix the cocoa into the hot cup of coffee, with the butter and vanilla. Great recipe. Delicious.

Yes agree love my ninja blenders just for blending my butter

Oily coffee is unappealing to me. Try blending with an immersion blender instead of just stirring.

Totally agree. Did this and it was a game changer.
