Healthy Whole Food Bang Bang Shrimp
This crispy shrimp recipe is heartwarming and off-the-charts delicious. The shrimp pieces are fried until golden and crisp and paired with a creamy, naturally sweet, and tangy sauce. In just a few minutes and using only a few ingredients, you can have this bang bang shrimp ready on your dinner table. This is one of the best Whole30 recipes to try if you’re craving restaurant-style food.
How to get the shrimp crispy every time?
There are many factors responsible for getting a crispy coating when preparing fried Whole30 shrimp recipes; here are a few:
• The first step to getting a crunchy crust is drying the shrimp using paper towels. This helps the tapioca flour stick, ensuring a crispy exterior.
• Whisk the egg whites until fluffy. This ensures that the shrimp pieces puff up.
• Keep your heat medium to medium-high at all times. If the oil is too hot, the coating will burn, and if the oil isn’t hot enough, the shrimp will become greasy.
Which ingredients should you look out for when preparing similar Whole30 recipes?
When it comes to Whole30 recipes, using sauces can be tricky. For the mayonnaise, make sure to use a brand with no added sugar and prepared using a Whole30 compliant oil. You can use our recipe to prepare Whole30 mayo: https://my.carbmanager.com/meals/my-foods?dialog=food-detail:ug:6bc7cd329fce41a2958e95e612608970
As for the ketchup and hot sauce, finding a Whole30 compliant brand can be more challenging. You are more likely to find them in healthy whole food stores or you can prepare your own.
What can you serve with these shrimp nuggets?
These crispy shrimp bites are amazing on their own as finger food. You can also serve them inside lettuce cups or with leafy greens as a salad.

Step 1
Pat the shrimp dry using clean paper towels. Butterfly the shrimp by slicing them from the top front to back. Return the shrimp to the fridge while you work on the next steps.Step 2
Place the egg whites in a bowl and whisk until frothy. Add the corn starch to another bowl. Add the oil to a small pan or heavy bottom pot.Step 3
The oil should be deep enough to submerge at least half the shrimp without using too much. This is why using a small pot/pan with high edges is essential. Place the pot over medium heat for 3-5 minutes until an inserted chopstick form bubbles around it.Step 4
Working in batches, dip the shrimp in egg whites then in the corn starch. Shake off the excess and fry for about 3 minutes per side until golden. Do not overcrowd the pot to maintain the oil’s heat.Step 5
Place the fried shrimp over a wire rack to drain excess oil. Repeat with the remaining shrimp until all are cooked. Meanwhile, prepare the bang bang sauce.Step 6
Add the mayonnaise, rice vinegar, hot sauce, coconut aminos, ketchup, and salt. Mince the garlic and add it to the bowl. Whisk to combine.Step 7
Lay the lettuce leaves over a serving dish. Transfer the fried shrimp over the lettuce and drizzle half the sauce on top of the shrimp. Pour the remaining sauce into a dipping bowl and serve immediately.

I do love the keto/low carb diet, but I have so many different flours, this will just be one more. What can I substitute for tapioca flour?

I did find some tapioca flour and made this exactly as instructed. It really turned out very good.

Hello, you can use a combination of extra fine almond flour and oat fiber, but the coating won't be as crispy :)

Can this be done with almond flour instead of tapioca flour?
