Low-Carb Tropical Electrolyte Drink
This Low-Carb electrolyte drink is the perfect beverage to help replenish electrolytes post-workout or any time you need a boost. This sweet and cooling beverage is refreshing with the tropical flavors of lime and coconut. Quick and easy to prepare, this drink can be made in a matter of seconds - perfect as part of your post work out regime.
What is an electrolyte drink?
Electrolyte drinks help replenish your body’s stores of essential minerals that can become depleted during exercise, training, or dehydration. Store-bought sports drinks are a typical example of an electrolyte beverage but often contain additives and refined sugars that are not Keto compliant. Our Low-Carb electrolyte drink is prepared from a coconut water base, naturally rich in electrolytes. We have combined this with a twist of lime, maple-flavored syrup and a pinch of sea salt. The lime provides a great source of magnesium and potassium as well as a zesty twist. Salt is also added as an additional source of electrolytes.
Who needs electrolytes?
Electrolytes are crucial to the healthy function of the human body. They are responsible for a wide range of processes in the body including proper functioning of the heart, digestive system, and nervous system amongst others. A normal healthy and balanced diet will provide a wide range of crucial minerals for the body. However, if you partake in regular exercise and gym sessions you will likely need to replace electrolytes lost from physical activity. Our Low-Carb electrolyte drink is the perfect solution if you are low-carb and want to avoid synthetic store-bought sports drinks.
Can you use different syrups?
Yes, any sugar-free syrup will work as long as the sweetener is Keto-friendly. This recipe uses maple-flavored syrup, but vanilla, caramel, hazelnut, and amaretto are all delicious substitutes to try.
What type of salt can you use for this drink?
It is important to use high-quality sea salt or pink Himalayan salt and not standard table salt.

Step 1
Gather your ingredients together and select a suitable drinking glass or sports bottle. We have used lime juice, but this can easily be subbed for lemon in the same quantities. Likewise, you may use an alternative low-carb sweetener if preferred.Step 2
Add the water and coconut water to your selected drinking vessel, then add the lime juice and the salt. Mix together well to combine, dissolving the salt into the coconut water.Step 3
Add the maple-flavored syrup to the electrolyte drink. Stir everything together until well combined. Taste and adjust the sweetness if desired to suit your personal taste, then serve immediately.

How is this keto friendly?

Coconut water is naturally sweet, no Maple syrup nor sweetener is needed IMHO. I think it would be very refreshing if it's only coconut water, lime/lemon juice, some salt, and water after a workout.

You can just omit the maple syrup ( and the coconut water) to avoid carbs. It'd be best to stay away from sweets altogether until you reach your goals and then have them occasionally. Best wishes.

This is really tasty. I am DEFINITELY not ever drinking gatorade or powerade as long as I can make this. I had it on ice and YUMMMMY! I bet its refreshing after a good workout. You should try this for sure!

Unless you like drinking maple syrup, I’d avoid this.

Yes agreed! The maple flavor is really not tasty when I want to drink an electrolyte.
