Low Carb Spicy Sausage Pizza

No diet is worth it if you can’t enjoy pizza! Fathead Dough is the perfect carb-replacement for pizza dough. It’s a little chewy, crisps up nicely in the oven, and the best part is it will actually hold your toppings. You can get as creative as you want to with your pizza. Just make sure to record the appropriate toppings in your meal tracker.

Recipe Steps

  • Step 1

Preheat an oven to 400 degrees. Prepare the Italian sausage by removing the casing from the sausage. Heat a medium sized pan to medium high heat and crumble in the sausage. Cook the meat all the way through until it’s brown and crispy, while breaking it up with the spatula. Set the cooked sausage aside to cool.
    Step 1
  • Step 2

Generously spray a baking sheet or round pizza pan with pan spray. Place your cold Fathead Dough in the center (a full recipe of the dough will provide you with the amount needed here). Place a sheet of wax paper over the dough, and use your hand or a rolling pin to press out the dough into a circle, rectangle, or shape of your choice. Keep the dough at about ¼-inch thick. Then, use a fork or knife to perforate the dough to avoid shrinkage during baking.
    Step 2
  • Step 3

Spoon on the crushed tomatoes. Crush and slice the garlic cloves, then place them on the pizza. Finally, top the dough with basil, Italian sausage, and mozzarella cheese. Place the pizza in the freezer for 10 minutes before baking.
    Step 3
  • Step 4

Bake the pizza for 20 minutes or until the top is golden and the crust is browned. Enjoy!

What is the need for putting into the freezer before baking?

Hi there! Freezing items made with a dough before baking helps avoid shrinking in high heat. This also helps develop a crispy outside and a tender inside. Hope this helps!
