Keto Peshwari Naan

Your Keto Indian food repertoire is not complete without a low-carb Peshwari Naan! This delicious Indian-inspired bread is made using a Keto fathead dough made from mozzarella cheese and coconut flour. Since it is Peshwari Naan, the fathead dough is stuffed with unsweetened coconut flakes and sliced almond flakes. Non-Keto Peshwari Naan traditionally includes raisins, but since this is a Keto recipe, we have excluded those. If you have a higher carb intake that you can play with, feel free to include a tablespoon of raisins in this recipe. Those that do sports or high physical activity may be able to safely include ingredients like this and stay in ketosis. It would also be safe for a higher carb day during carb cycling. The Keto Peshwari Naan is baked until it is nicely golden brown on top, then, once it exits the oven, the naan is slathered with melted ghee! We baked ours on a silicone mat, so removal after baking is easy (parchment paper would cause sticking). The delicious cheesy flavor in the bread, along with the sliced almonds and coconut flakes, would be perfect with other Keto Indian meals to help sop up remnants of curry!

Is Peshwari Naan Keto?

While traditional Peshwari Naan is not Keto as it is made with wheat flour, we have made this version using a Keto fathead dough, so it is Keto compliant. It is also filled with Keto ingredients like sliced almonds and unsweetened coconut flakes.

Can you make Indian food on Keto?

Like all cuisines, Indian food has both Keto and non-Keto dishes. With some modifications, you can make Indian food Keto by substituting carb sources with things like cheese or cauliflower rice and so forth.

What special equipment do I need for this recipe?

You will need a silicone mat. If you are hesitant about making this purchase, silicone mats are a quintessential piece of equipment for many Keto recipes and will definitely be worth the investment!

To make the ultimate pairing, serve Keto Peshwari Naan our Keto Chicken Vindaloo to soak up all the sauce at the bottom of the bowl!

Recipe Steps

steps 7

  • Step 1

Preheat an oven to 350F (175C). Line a baking sheet with a silicone mat. Place the mozzarella cheese in a microwave-safe bowl. Heat on high for 40 seconds in the microwave until the cheese is hot and melted. Add time in 30-second increments until melted, if necessary.
    Step 1
  • Step 2

Add in the egg white and coconut flour. Mix well until combined using a rubber spatula. It might be lumpy, and that is ok. It will continue to melt when it is baked in the oven.
    Step 2
  • Step 3

Place the dough onto the silicone-lined baking sheet. Gently spread it enough to place the sliced almonds and coconut flakes in the middle. Gently scoop up the edges of the fathead dough with a rubber spatula and enclose it around the filling.
    Step 3
  • Step 4

Then use the same spatula to gently spread the dough out into a naan shape that is about ½” thick. It will look bumpy, but that is ok as the cheese will melt in the oven.
    Step 4
  • Step 5

Bake the naan for about 16-18 minutes or until it is nicely golden brown on the top and the edges. The silicone mat is ideal during this step because once the naan cools slightly, you should be able to peel it off very easily.
    Step 5
  • Step 6

Melt the ghee in a small bowl in the microwave. Brush the ghee over the hot fresh naan. You can use a silicone brush for this step.
    Step 6
  • Step 7

Sprinkle with parsley, if desired. The parsley offers a fresh flavor and color. Serve immediately! Enjoy!
