Keto Hawaiian Garlic Shrimp

8 ratings

Hawaiian garlic shrimp is made by crushing whole garlic cloves (skin-on) in a mortar and pestle to release the wonderful aroma and oils from the garlic cloves. The crushed garlic is then slowly sautéed in butter and oil until nicely brown and crispy. Large skin-on shrimp is sautéed with soy sauce and fish sauce and then tossed in the lovely toasted garlic. Serve as is or with cauliflower rice.

Husband and I like this a lot. I mashed the garlic without the skins though. Also I served it with Sriracha...yum!

I think I might add some Sambal Oelek chili paste next time.

So are the garlic skins supposed to be eaten?

I cooked the garlic and skins together in the butter/oil mixture and served it with the skins, which made for an interesting presentation. The fine skins had a nice, crispy texture, but thick skins had a tough, papery texture, and I discarded them. So I'm guessing that you eat some of the skins, but not all.

I think you add brown sugar with liquids. That’s what would sweeten it which would be the Hawaiian in the title

Brown Sugar? In the ingredient list but not in the cooking directions. Believe it is an error.
