What is Detroit style pizza?

Keto Detroit style pizza is made with a thick, Keto-friendly pizza crust that is shaped into a rectangle instead of a circle. The sauce is spread on thick and so is the cheese, and all the toppings go all the way to the edges of the pizza. Each slice is cut into a thick square or rectangle to make a very filling main course for your meal.

Is marinara sauce Keto?

  • Step 1

Add warm (not cold or hot) water to a large mixing bowl. Stir the honey into the water so it dissolves, then stir the yeast into the water. Leave the yeast bowl aside for 5 minutes to give the yeast time to activate. You’ll know it’s ready once it smells fragrant and little air bubbles appear in the water.
    Step 1
  • Step 2

In a separate bowl, sift together almond flour, coconut flour, xanthan gum, baking powder, and salt. Then, add the dry ingredients to your yeast water. Use a rubber spatula to fold the ingredients together until a dough forms. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap, and set the bowl aside for 60 minutes.
    Step 2
  • Step 3

After the dough ferments, turn on your oven to preheat to 400 F (200 C) and line a glass baking dish with parchment paper. Set the dish aside and add egg whites to a stand mixer or food processor. Whip the egg whites until they are foamy and stiff. Use your rubber spatula to add the whipped egg whites to your bowl of dough, and fold the ingredients until you have a streak-free and spongy pizza dough.
    Step 3
  • Step 4

Use the spatula to spread the pizza dough out in your lined baking dish. Spread it out evenly, and use your spatula to make sure the edges are clean. Use a fork to poke small holes throughout the dough. Then, bake the dough without any toppings for 15 minutes.
    Step 4
  • Step 5

Remove the dish from the oven. Being careful of the hot dish, spread marinara sauce across the entire pizza crust, even all the way to the edges. Sprinkle oregano over the marinara sauce, then arrange pepperoni slices on the pizza. Cover the entire pizza with mozzarella and parmesan cheese all the way to the edges of the crust.
    Step 5
  • Step 6

Reduce the oven temperature to 350 F (180 C). Place the pizza dish back in your oven and bake it for approximately 25 minutes. Look for golden brown edges all around the pizza on both the crust and the cheese. Let the pizza cool for 5 minutes before slicing it for serving.
