Air Fryer Paleo Honey Garlic Chicken Thighs

Our Air Fryer Honey Garlic Chicken Thighs are reminiscent of teriyaki chicken without additives like wheat, soy, or refined sugars! Tender chicken thighs are browned nicely in the air fryer. Then, they are placed into a sauce prepared with minced garlic, raw honey, coconut aminos, and apple cider vinegar. The chicken is cooked in the sauce until the sauce glazes the chicken, and the chicken becomes nicely dark brown on the edges. These thighs would be excellent served with cauliflower rice or a deep green vegetable like lacinato kale or baby bok choy.

What are coconut aminos?

Coconut aminos are a soy-free alternative to soy sauce. It is made by taking coconut nectar and fermenting it to create a slightly sweet and fermented flavor. We love the taste and love even more that it is allergen-free.

What if I do not have an air fryer?

If you do not have an air fryer, you can use a skillet to make this recipe. Cook the chicken thighs on both sides until browned in the skillet. Then remove them from the skillet and mix the sauce in the pan. Then, add the chicken thighs back, cooking over low heat until the sauce glazes the meat.

What other flavors can I add?

If you love ginger, minced ginger would be tasty alongside the garlic!

To make the ultimate pairing, serve this with other Paleo recipes like our Paleo Pumpkin Coconut Macaroons which would be delicious after dinner treat.

  • Step 1

Place the raw chicken thighs directly on the rack inserted into an air fryer basket. You should be able to place the chicken thighs side by side and fit them all. Sprinkle them on both sides with kosher salt and black pepper.
    Step 1
  • Step 2

There is no need to preheat the air fryer. Simply set it to 400 F and cook for 25 minutes until nicely browned. The meat should look like this.
    Step 2
  • Step 3

In the meantime, combine the remaining ingredients to make the sauce. Add the minced garlic, honey, coconut aminos, and apple cider vinegar to a bowl. Stir well to dissolve the honey.
    Step 3
  • Step 4

Remove the chicken from the rack and remove the insert from the air fryer. Add the sauce to the bottom of the air fryer. Add the chicken back in, smooth side down.
    Step 4
  • Step 5

Cook for another 10-15 minutes in the sauce. Flip the chicken halfway through to allow the top side to brown. Once the sauce has glazed the chicken and the chicken is dark brown on the edges, the meat is ready. Serve immediately with your favorite side and drizzle with sauce.

The thighs were dry and tough when cooked at 400 without the skin. There really wasn’t much the glaze could do to make up for it.

I used sugar free maple syrup instead of honey, which made it keto. It was yum.
